Nedenia Faiula Tuiletufuga is the proud daughter of Simi La’ai Tuiletufuga from Vailoa, American Samoa and Apia, Samoa, and Flora Taupea Tuiletufuga from the village of Atu’u, American Samoa. Born and raised in Federal Way, Washington, on the lands of the Puyallup Tribe, she is deeply rooted in both her cultural heritage and the community that shaped her. She has worked with youth for over eight years as a Siva Samoa instructor, using traditional dance as a means of connection, healing, and empowerment. Now working with UTOPIA, she hopes to help create and sustain safe, affirming spaces for queer and trans youth. Outside of work, Nedenia finds joy in singing and dancing Siva Samoa, continuing to honor her culture through creative expression and movement.
Our strength as a community is in the diversity of stories, experiences, and identities. As Fa’afafine, Māhū, Leitī, Vakasalewalewa and many other Pacific Islander identities, our very beings are by nature intersectional, and our work cannot help but be so as well.
