Outreach Support for Street-Based Sex Workers
At UTOPIA Washington, we are dedicated to providing essential support to street-based sex workers through our comprehensive Starlight and Moonlight outreach programs. Our team is on the ground both during the day and at night, ensuring that individuals have access to the resources and services they need to stay safe, healthy, and empowered.
Starlight Outreach
Our Starlight outreach (which takes place during the daytime hours of 11am to 3pm every 2nd Friday of each month) focuses on building trust and offering practical support to sex workers. Our activities include:
- Health and Safety Kits: Distribution of condoms, lubricants, and other sexual health supplies to promote safer practices.
- Hygiene Supplies: Providing essential items like sanitary products, hand sanitizers, and toiletries to help maintain personal hygiene.
- Resource Connection: Offering information on local health services, including clinics, mental health support, and substance use programs.
- Advocacy and Legal Aid: Guidance on legal rights, support with navigating the legal system, and connections to advocacy services.
- Support and Counseling: Emotional support and referrals to counseling or therapy services for those in need.
Moonlight Outreach
Moonlight outreach is crucial for reaching sex workers during their peak working hours. This outreach activity takes place between the hours of 8pm-12am midnight every 4th Friday of each month. Our team is there to offer immediate support and ensure safety through:
- Safety Checks: Regular check-ins to ensure sex workers are safe and aware of potential risks in the area.
- Emergency Assistance: Immediate support in case of emergencies, including first aid, crisis intervention, and connections to emergency services.
- Warm Meals and Drinks: Providing warm food and beverages to help individuals stay nourished and hydrated during the night.
- Clothing and Blankets: Distribution of warm clothing, blankets, and other necessities for comfort in colder conditions.
- Safe Transport Information: Information on safe transportation options and assistance with accessing safe rides home when possible.
