In the past year, our Civic Engagement team has worked diligently in assisting our community members build their pathway to citizenship. When we reached out to Immigration Attorneys and Paralegals to help volunteer for our Citizenship Clinic back in April of 2023, Paralegal Lata Pitolau gladly devoted her time to be part of our clinic. Lata Pitolau, a seasoned Samoan Paralegal was born in Pago Pago, American Samoa and is currently residing in West Olympia with her husband and 5-year-old son. She is a proud Samoan U.S Army Veteran who served 10 years and was medically retired in 2015. She graduated from Purdue University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies. She further her legal education and graduated with her Advanced Paralegal Certificate from Edmonds College in Lynwood, WA in 2021, approved by the American Bar Association.
Lata understands first-hand barriers our community faced when navigating the immigration system when she first came on board. Growing up as a Samoan Pacific Islander, her desire to help people derived from the lived experience her family faced when navigating the immigration system.
