PLEASE READ RULES AND REGULATIONS BELOW THOROUGHLY BEFORE REGISTERING

Miss UTOPIA International is our annual pageant, highlighting the beauty, talent, and diversity of our queer, trans, and gender-diverse community. Participating in this event means agreeing to understand and uphold the rules, regulations, and expectations put forth in this packet, so we advise you to read the following pages thoroughly before completing your online application.

Overview

Due to the COVID-19 and the safety of our community, we are postponing Miss UTOPIA International til 2023.

Rules and Regulations

All contestants are expected to abide by the following rules and regulations at all times. Failure to abide by the rules outlined below may result in point deduction or disqualification from the event.

After not having a pageant for two years, we are requiring strict COVID-19 protocols to be enforced during the entirety of our pageant. More information will be included after registration.

  1. CONTESTANT AGE AND PERSONAL INFORMATION
    • Contestants must be 18 years old or older at the time of registration. Contestants must identify as queer, transgender, or gender-diverse.
  2. ENTRY FEES AND PROCESSING
    • An entry fee of $100.00 must accompany all Contestant applications. All entry fees must be paid no later than March 31st, 2022 unless otherwise outlined by the Events and Production Manager.
      • TO PAY ONLINE visit https://utopiawashington.app.neoncrm.com/forms/donate and select “Miss UTOPIA International 2023” from the Campaign drop-down. Make sure to note you are a “Contestant” in the “Donor Note” section at checkout.

      • This year we are testing a new feature which will allow Contestants to receive a reimbursement on their $100 entry fee. After your registration is accepted you will receive a promo code. This promo code can be used by attendees when purchasing $100 General Admission – Table Seating tickets. You will be eligible for a reimbursement of your entry fee when ten have registered using your promo code.  
      • Reimbursement will be provided in cash at the end of the event to qualifying Contestants only. Must be on-site to collect reimbursement. No additional reimbursement will be provided for attendees beyond ten. Please contact the Events and Production Manager if you have any questions about this program.
  3. ATTENDANCE AND VENUE ACCESS 
    • Contestants will have access to the venue for two days – DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED. Specific deadlines for each day are outlined below. 
      • Day One [DATE TBA] – Pre Event Rehearsal
        • Contestants must attend the Pre Event Rehearsal the Friday preceding the event. If you are late, you will automatically be Contestant #1. 
      • Day Two [DATE TBA] – Event Day 
        • The venue will be open to contestants and their two assistants Saturday starting at [TBA]. Upon arriving you will be escorted to your dressing room, and are expected to be backstage and pageant-ready no later than 5:00PM. A ten point deduction will be taken from your overall score should you be late. 
        • Backstage areas are restricted to contestants, their assistants, and event staff only. A five point deduction will be taken from your overall score for each infraction should more than two people be assisting you at one time.
        • Entry for two assistants is included in your entry fee. No more than two assistants are permitted per contestant.Assistants will be provided backstage passes at check-in, which must be worn at all times. Assistants are to use the lounge and bathroom facilities located backstage.  
        • Backup dancers and all other escort and prop personnel must purchase an attendee ticket of any tier. Backup dancers and all other escort and prop personnel are not permitted backstage until just prior to the division in which they are required, and must leave immediately upon changing.Backup dancers and other escort and prop personnel will be provided backstage passes at check in, which must be worn when changing for the division in which they are required. Backstage passes will be collected following the division in which they are required, at which point backup dancers and all other escort and prop personnel must return to their seats. 
        • Contestants are responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of their station. No personal items should be left in your station upon leaving the venue. UTOPIA Washington makes no guarantee of return or reimbursement for items left in the venue after the end of the event.
  4. SCORING AND PAGEANT CATEGORIES 
    • Contestants will compete in five categories, on a point system totaling 300 points per judge. If a tie should occur, the higher talent score will be the winning contestant. 
      • CATEGORY 1 : SWIMWEAR 
        • Envision yourself living in paradise, enjoying a life of tropical splash, sea breezing, and white sandy beaches. What would you wear on your dream fantasy Island? This will be your concept for creativity and fashion. Choice of colors is open. Contestants will be judged on modeling ability, stage presence, personality, poise and posture, and overall presentation. 
          • Restrictions: Must be swimwear, 2 piece or full. Absolutely no sarongs. No pasties, no lingerie. Swimwear and not a costume. Props are acceptable but not required. Time limit: 2 minutes max on stage. Music: will be provided by stage manager 
      • CATEGORY 2 : TALENT 
        • Any type of Talent presentation is acceptable, except those that may cause injury to the audience. Absolutely no fire, excessive water, or glitter and confetti. Live animals may be used. Full-body nudity is prohibited, but pasties and thongs are acceptable. This will be your only chance to showcase that spirit and wow the audience, so give it all you got! Contestants will be judged on choreography, entertainment value, attire, and overall presentation. 
          • Restrictions: Contestants are asked to be responsible for breakdown and cleanup. No prop or clothing to be left on stage. Backup dancers are permitted backstage no earlier than fifteen minutes prior to performance. Dancers must immediately exit backstage upon completion. Time limit: 6 minutes max on stage. Music: Contestants are to provide their own music. A copy must be submitted a week prior. 
      • CATEGORY 3 : NATIONAL WEAR 
        • The sky’s the limit in this category. Here the contestants will be judged on how creative they can be in producing a national costume. Contestants are asked to display an authentic costume that best represents the culture of their country of choice. This look can be representative of the culture, a story, landmark, or anything that is significant to that country. Contestants will be judged on originality, design and attire, fitting, and overall presentation. 
          • Restrictions: Contestants are asked to be responsible for breakdown and cleanup. No prop or clothing to be left on stage. Time limit: 6 minutes max on stage. Music: Contestants are to provide their own music. A copy must be submitted a week prior.
      • CATEGORY 4 : EVENING WEAR 
        • Showcasing contestants in their interpretation of elegance, grace, and glamor. Contestants will be judged on poise and posture, stage presence, glamor and grooming, attire, and overall presentation. 
          • Restrictions: Contestants are asked to be responsible for breakdown and cleanup. No prop or clothing to be left on stage. Contestants may have an escort, who must exit the stage immediately after. Time limit: 6 minutes max on stage. Music: Contestants are to provide their own music. A copy must be submitted a week prior. 
      • CATEGORY 5 : QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
        • This is your chance to highlight the issues affecting the 2SLGBTQI+ and indigenous communities.  
          • Restrictions: Contestants are asked to be responsible for breakdown and cleanup. No prop or clothing to be left on stage.  
  5. WINNING MISS UTOPIA INTERNATIONAL 
    • The prestigious title of Miss UTOPIA International comes with certain duties and expectations required to fulfill your reign. All prizes and other earnings are dependent on meeting these expectations following your crowning.
      • The winner of the Miss UTOPIA International Pageant will receive a $2000 cash prize, official crown and sash, and any other prizes to be announced.  
        • $1000 of the $2000 cash prize will be awarded the night of the event. The remaining $1000 will be awarded upon stepping down at the next Miss UTOPIA International pageant.  
        • You are responsible for the maintenance and care of the official crown and sash during your reign. You will be expected to replace either item should they be lost, stolen, or damaged. 
        • MANDATORY : You will be expected to participate in at least 40 hours of community service and one fundraiser benefiting UTOPIA Washington. 
        • MANDATORY : You will be expected to support fundraising efforts for the next Miss UTOPIA International Pageant. 
        • OPTIONAL: You will be invited to participate in the Seattle Pride Parade and other UTOPIA Washington events during your reign. 
      • The First Runner-Up will receive a $500 cash prize and commemorative plaque and bouquet. 
      • The Second Runner-Up will receive a $300 cash prize and commemorative plaque and bouquet. 
      • Trophies will be provided to the winner of each individual category. 
      • An additional trophy will be provided to the Miss Photogenic award winner.
  6. CONDUCT AND DISQUALIFICATION 
    • Any contestants, assistants, backup dancers, escorts, and other prop personnel found to be intoxicated during the pageant portion of the event will be immediately disqualified and escorted off the premises. No refund will be offered on entry fees or attendee tickets. 
    • Any contestants, assistants, backup dancers, escorts, and other prop personnel found to be stealing or tampering with the belongings of someone else will be immediately disqualified and escorted off the premises. No refund will be offered on entry fees or attendee tickets.
    • Violence or abusive language towards event attendees, staff, and participants will not be tolerated and will result in immediate disqualification and escort off the premises. No refund will be offered on entry fees or attendee tickets.
    • UTOPIA Washington reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel the registration of any attendee or contestant found to be behaving in a way which conflicts with the core message, values, and mission of UTOPIA Washington.
